UFC Fight Night London

Great to see it on mainstream TV channels. Wanted to go but thought better of it. Not a bad card for UK.

Split loyalties here. Always a rather partisan observer, I was obviously going to cheer for Jimmy Manuwa. But I’m something of a fan of Gustaffson. Thought he should have been given the close decision against Jones and would like to see him given another chance. To do that he would have beat the Brit in front of him. And beat him he did. Good knee followed by a good uppercut followed by a good referee stoppage. Clearly meant a lot to him and will hopefully put him in with another title shot.

I’m applauding the fact that the coverage was on mainstream TV. But the quality left a bit to be desired. The recognisable experts were good. But the anchormen were lame. The guy with Forrest Griffin asked the most inane questions imaginable. It was clear that he was trying to feed some knowledge to new viewers. The card was on mainstream TV after all so there’s likely to be some new viewers. But it was clear the guy didn’t have enough knowledge himself to know what questions to feed Forrest to impart the information to the viewer. Forrest did well with what he was given but the viewer could have been better informed with a better partnership on screen. It was no Mike and Joe show for sure. It wasn’t even John and Kenny.

Still looking forward to the next time though. More mainstream TV please!
